‘Houses were exploding around me’: Tri-State native recounts escaping California wildfires

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – One Evansville native shared her story of her family’s narrow escape from the Eaton Fire that’s devastated so much of California.

“We went outside and immediately saw the fire and saw how close it was. With the winds we were getting, gusts close to 80 miles an hour, I knew we had to evacuate immediately,” said Melissa Accad.

Accad says she didn’t have time to grab any clothes as fires approached her home in northern LA County. She packed her kids, their cats and a box containing their most important paperwork in the car to drive to a family member’s house in nearby Pasadena…
