According to a New York Times op-ed by Republican Gov. Mike DeWine reprinted in The Plain Dealer Sept. 22 (“I’m the governor of Ohio and I don’t recognize the Springfield that Trump and Vance describe,” Springfield “is having a resurgence in manufacturing and job creation. Some of that is thanks to the dramatic influx of Haitian migrants who have arrived in the city over the past three years to fill jobs. They are there legally. They are there to work.”

This was DeWine’s response to Sen. and GOP vice-presidential candidate JD Vance, who has suggested he’s justified in creating stories to get the media to pay attention to the issue of immigration, even if that means a small Ohio town is turned upside-down with bomb threats and visits by the Proud Boys.

Donald Trump and Vance perpetuate lies knowing this is putting immigrants at risk. Is that what a public servant does? Are we to applaud our Ohio senator? Will Trump listen to the city manager and mayor of towns he plans to visit? Will the facts matter?…
