TROY — “Building B24 Air Bases” will be presented at WACO Air Museum in Troy on Thursday, Jan. 16, at 7 p.m.
David Bucher, WACO trustee, pilot and aircraft mechanic, will present the details of this story and reveal Buchers personal connection with a WW2 B24 Army Air Base to train pilots and mechanics, in third third lecture of the WACO Aviation Lecture Series for the 2024-25 lecture season.
Bucher has served over 40 years in aviation working for air freight companies Federal Express, Emery Worldwide, and Airborne with jobs in both flight operations and maintenance, to positions in senior management. During his career, Bucher learned about building the B24 bomber while spending a significant amount of time at the former B24 plant at Willow Run Airport outside Ypsilanti, Michigan. During other parts of his career, Bucher had direct contact with local residents who lived in Smyrna, Tennessee during WWII, and through visits to the local historical society, learned how aviation personnel were trained to fly and maintain this new 4 engine bomber at the Smyrna Army Air Base…
