The Police Accountability Board, or PAB, discussed revisions to vehicle pursuit tactics at its meeting Wednesday, ultimately motioning for further information and data on incidents.

The reconsideration of vehicle pursuit tactics has been ongoing for six months. Nationwide, police pursuits caused 3,366 deaths and 52,600 injuries from 2017 to 2022, according to the PAB memorandum on updating the city’s vehicle pursuit policy.

“(A revision) captures both the facts that they are high-risk endeavors and the fact that officers need objective criteria and clear decision-making processes before becoming engaged in a pursuit,” said PAB member Joshua Cayetano. “It’s really easy to get caught up in the moment.”…
