New Mexico Weather Alert: Record Highs Friday, Fire Risks Saturday Amid Red Flag Warnings

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Record-breaking highs are expected across central and western New Mexico on Friday, with temperatures reaching 20 degrees above normal. Residents should prepare for gusty winds and critical fire weather conditions on Saturday as a Red Flag Warning takes effect.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), gusts up to 30 mph combined with dry conditions will increase fire risks significantly. Avoid outdoor burning and activities that could produce sparks, such as welding or discarding cigarette butts, especially in areas under the warning, including Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Clovis.

Temperatures on Saturday will dip slightly to a high near 65 degrees, with clearer skies in the afternoon. However, colder air will push into the region starting Sunday, dropping highs to 52 degrees with northwest winds of 10 mph.
