KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL)—Art of Sewing has been helping people with their needlework skills and repairing Singers since 1974, but on Saturday, customers and staff gathered at the shop to sew blankets in preparation for fall weather.
After the recent cold spell, Art of Sewing’s customers decided to create fleece blankets to be distributed to North Carolina. The group made the first stitches at 9 a.m. and worked throughout the day.
Customer Cathy Smith pitched the idea, and customer Sue Schwegler made trips to nearby fabric shops to stock up on different patterns, aiming to customize blankets for children, teens and adults. Art of Sewing owner Bob Bolton funded the supplies…
