Monarchs Are in Ninth While Gresham is in Second Individually

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  No. 17 Methodist University women’s golf completed its first round of the MCC Women’s Intercollegiate on Sunday, currently in 9th with a score of 29 over-par 317. Individually, senior Emily Gresham is in second place following a day one score of three under-par 69 and is three strokes behind the leader.

OPENING ROUND

  • An eagle, a birdie, and a bogey had Gresham at two-under when she made the turn from the front half to the back half of the course. Two more birdies put her at four-under before one bogey, on her second to last hole, cancelled out one of her birdies.
  • In a tie for 45th, Megan Kestner and Molly McCluskey each shot a 10 over-par 82 in their respective opening rounds. Kestner made three bogeys and a double bogey to put her at five-over following her first nine holes, then on the back nine, she scored five-over again with three bogeys, two double bogeys, and two birdies.
  • Three bogeys and two double bogeys had McCluskey at seven over-par after she finished the front half of the course. She played a little better on the back half as she made four more bogeys but also chipped in a birdie for three over-par.
  • Natalie Brosig wrapped up her first round with a 12 over-par 84 performance, which puts her in a three-way tie for 51st. A rough start through her first nine as she opened with two straight bogeys then made three consecutive double bogeys, but she went into the turn on a positive note after she made a birdie on hole 9. During her last nine holes, she made two bogeys, two double bogeys, and a birdie to end her round.
  • Cloe Rich concluded her day with nine bogeys, three double bogeys, and two birdies for a score of 14 over-par 86, which places her in a tie for 55th.
  • Jenna Rutledge also traveled with the team but is playing as an individual. She is currently in a tie for 39th after she shot a nine over-par 81 in the first round. Her card registered six bogeys, two double bogeys, and a birdie through 18 holes.
