Flint City Council mediation adjourned. Impasse over appointment drags on

FLINT, MI — Several members of the Flint City Council say a Genesee Circuit judge adjourned their court-ordered mediation on Wednesday, Jan. 8, without resolving an impasse over the appointment of a new 3rd Ward council member.

Judge Elizabeth A. Kelly had ordered the mediation in an attempt to break a stalemate over the appointment of a replacement for the late Quincy Murphy, who died on Sept. 29 while serving his first term in office.

Council members carried out more than 100 rounds of voting on the appointment in December but none of the four candidates for the position received the five votes necessary to win the job…
