PHOENIX — Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes joined 11 other states Friday in attempting to maintain federal regulations on “forever chemicals” in drinking water.
The coalition filed an amicus brief supporting the Environmental Protection Agency’s first-ever national standards for PFAS chemicals, which have been linked to cancer and liver disease. The regulations would require public water systems across the country to test for and treat six specific PFAS compounds.
“Arizona stands with states across the nation in supporting the EPA’s efforts to establish enforceable safeguards against these toxic ‘forever’ chemicals in our drinking water,” Mayes said. “This rule is a crucial tool in addressing the widespread and long-term impacts of PFAS.”…
