GREELEY, Colo. (KDVR) — Greeley police posted a message on its Facebook page that said it had been receiving a growing number of phone calls from citizens asking for help removing raccoons from their yards during the day.
Raccoons are usually nocturnal creatures and stay out of sight during daytime hours. That unusual daytime behavior is one of the symptoms of Distemper, which Colorado Parks and Wildlife said is a disease similar to rabies.

“We wanted to inform you that in Greeley, and throughout the State of Colorado, there is an epidemic of raccoons that are infected with Distemper,” the Greeley Police Department said on its Facebook Page.
The department also wrote that it has received an “increase in animal calls for patrols.” However, the post said the department’s animal control officers are only allowed to investigate calls involving domesticated animals. The department warned people about the dangers the disease poses to pets…
