LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Cold Weather Outlook: New Year’s Day Marks the Beginning of a Prolonged Cold Snap

A dynamic system will sweep into the region on New Year’s Eve, bringing rain and gusty winds. As the system progresses, there’s a chance the rain will transition to snow on New Year’s Day.

Light Snow Event Ahead

Before the main cold wave arrives, two light snow events are forecasted to impact the region on Thursday and Friday. These snowfalls are not expected to be major, but they will serve as a precursor to more significant winter weather. Approximately 1 inch of snow accumulation is possible.
