Man who pleaded guilty for role in stolen MDSHA tow truck police chase to be sentenced

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (7News) — A Laurel, Maryland man is set to be sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to several charges stemming from a February multi-county police chase involving a stolen Maryland State Highway Administration (MDSHA) tow truck.

Flavio Lanuza, 27, is set to be sentenced in Montgomery County at 9:30 a.m. Thursday. He pleaded guilty in September to second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, fleeing and eluding a marked police vehicle by failing to stop the vehicle resulting in bodily injury, and eleven counts of failure to return and remain at the scene of an accident.

The more than half-hour chase began a little before 5 p.m. Feb. 16, after state troopers were called to a hit-and-run crash involving four vehicles on Interstate 495. The driver of one of the vehicles, later identified as Lanuza, fled the scene, according to authorities…
