CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Despite all the recent rain, autumn leaves should still change color on time, according to the Virginia Department of Forestry.
Heavy rains can impact the fall foliage by knocking down the yellow leaves and keeping the green ones intact. According to the Forestry Department, this is a normal pattern.
“Trees in the city areas do tend to change early anyway because growing in an urban condition is stressful for trees,” Department of Forestry Conservation Education Coordinator Ellen Powell said. “People often ask us, Is this going to be a pretty fall? And the answer is always yes. We are always going to have fall color.”…
