ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — This first full week of January will be a very busy one for the boys’ basketball teams from the four District 205 schools. Auburn, East, Guilford and Jefferson will all play three NIC-10 games in four days. They’ll each play one game Wednesday night, then a second game Friday night, and then they’ll play Saturday in the annual “Rumble in the Rock” at Rock Valley College. Auburn, for example, will play at Jefferson on Wednesday then host Harlem on Friday and then face East Saturday. Playing three games in four days isn’t exactly new for these guys. They do that and more many times in holiday tournaments and in summer leagues, but those aren’t conference games. As Auburn coach Brian Ott says, conference games are much more intense and demand more preparation and more strategy, but the schedule is the schedule, and the guys love to play games and the Rumble in the Rock is a great day for hardcore high school basketball fans.
