Gov. DeWine signs ‘Madeline’s Law,’ requiring insurance companies to cover hearing aids

Insurance companies will now be mandated to cover the cost of hearing aids for those under 21 years old, under “Madeline’s Law,” which was signed by Gov. Mike DeWine on Jan. 2.

Under the law, which was first introduced by then-Rep. Casey Weinstein (D-Hudson) and Rep. Allison Russo (D-Upper Arlington) in 2019, insurance companies will be required to cover hearing aids for those under 21. The legislation provides up to $2,500 in coverage every four years for children who require hearing aids.

“I believe that all Ohioans deserve access to affordable healthcare, and that includes essential devices like hearing aids for our children,” said Weinstein, who is now in the state Senate. “The high costs associated with hearing aids should never force a family to make impossible choices or go without the support their children need.”…
