Spartans Battled Winthrop in Conference Opener

Spartanburg, S.C. – Upstate men’s soccer returned to County University Soccer to open conference play against Winthrop University. The Spartans earned a new team season-high in corner kicks with nine. Despite Upstate holding Winthrop scoreless throughout the first half, the final score was 2-0 in favor of the Eagles.

The match started quickly, with the first shot occurring a minute into play. Adrian Panaite was the first Spartan to take aim at the goal. Anthony Cox led the Spartans in shots, posting a new season-high of three. Elijah Jackson finished the night with two shots, making him the second Spartan to have a season-high night. Thomas Herzog and Dario Stadler each finished the night with a shot on goal. Cooper Jennings put up a strong performance in goal, totaling six saves. Jennings has moved to fourth in the Upstate record book for career saves with 119.
