‘Help Stop Hate’ service launches in Illinois

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — Illinois has a new service to help victims and witnesses report hate crimes.

The FBI reported 11,862 criminal incidents of reported hate crimes in 2023 , an all-time high. Illinois leaders launched “Help Stop Hate” Wednesday to stope that rise in hate crimes in the state.

“Help Stop Hate” will provide confidential services to support people and communities affected by hate with a new avenue to report hate crimes.

The service is free. Online reports can be made in seven languages: English, Spanish, Mandarin, Tagalog, Polish, Arabic and Hindi. Callers can receive care from specialists trained in cultural competency and trauma informed care…
