For at least three weeks, a homeless, scared and tiny dog would follow the children walking home from school; stopping short of their front doors and then quickly scooting away. Although she yearned to be picked up and loved, she was too frightened to trust anyone.
The City of Paramount, part of Los Angeles County, is a small tight knit community, and neighbors wanted to rescue her but had no luck trying to capture the scared pup. Instead they would leave food and water for her. She had found her little spot on the corner by a tree to sleep. During the day, it was warm, but at night, temperatures dropped, and she would shiver.
Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, arrived after rescue volunteer, Rosario Ortiz had already been on site, and the two women set up humane traps along the dog’s daily path. The clever pup would instead circle around the traps; since neighbors had been feeding her, she wasn’t hungry and didn’t see any reason to get too close. Instead, she would just return to the tree; the place she now called home and just waited. Was this the spot where her family abandoned her?…
