Texas Man Sentenced to 15 Months for $2 Million Fitbit Theft from Amazon Warehouse

A federal judge has handed down a 15-month sentence to a Texas man for his role in a sizable theft operation. Dwight Oliver, 40, from Grand Prairie, was caught stealing over $2 million in Fitbits from an Amazon-operated warehouse and then fencing them on eBay. According to a U.S. Department of Justice release, Oliver must also pay back some $1.4 million in restitution.

While working as a facility supervisor at a warehouse in Plainfield, Indiana, Oliver devised and executed his theft between June 2021 and September 2021. Devices went missing as they were in transit to Amazon’s fulfillment centers across the nation. An internal investigation by Amazon linked the missing items to orders that had passed through the Indiana warehouse, which led to Oliver’s undoing. He reportedly disabled GPS trackers on the employer’s vehicles to avoid detection during the thefts.

Oliver’s online deception began in June 2021 when he started listing the stolen Fitbits as legitimate goods on eBay. He used the U.S. Postal Service to ship approximately 100 of the pinched fitness trackers to buyers across America, profiting around $687,000 from his illicit sales. “Criminals who abuse their positions of trust to steal from customers and their employers cause harm to our economy and raise prices for everyone,” U.S. Attorney Zachary A.
