Holiday gift return hacks: First comes the shopping, then comes the returns

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – It’s not the most fun part of the holidays, but the sooner you start making those necessary returns, the better.

It all starts with understanding the return policy.

  • CHECK OUT STORE POLICIES- Return and exchange policies vary. You can usually find them printed on the back of your gift receipt. Some retailers are shortening the holiday return window to crack down on the chance for fraud.
  • UNDERSTAND RETURN SHIPPING COSTS- If you’re looking to send back an item, check the policy to determine what it’s going to cost you. In some cases you may consider taking it directly to the store instead of shipping it.
  • KEEP TRACK OF RECEIPTS- Whether it’s a physical receipt or a digital one, hold onto it incase you decide to return something. Keep in mind if you don’t have it, you may only be granted a store credit.
