LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — Fluoride will no longer be added to public drinking water in Lincoln County.
The Lincoln County Commissioners voted unanimously on Monday to prohibit fluoridization of the county’s water supply. The county was already mostly without fluoride due to a 2018 system failure and would have required an upgrade to return the mineral to the water supply.
Commissioners cited cost concerns and the availability of fluoride in toothpaste and water bottles as reasons for not returning fluoride to the county’s public drinking water.
