Supperland made its way to Charlotte, NC in 2021. Over the last few years, it has become one of the hottest dining spots in the city. It is located in the heart of the rapidly evolving South End district and in its basement there is a Speakeasy – but it’s invite-only! Whether you live in Charlotte or you’re just visiting the Queen City, it’s hard to ignore the buzz around this restaurant. So, what’s the hype? Here’s everything you need to know about Supperland before visiting.

A Bold Take on Southern Comfort Food

On the restaurant’s website, Supperland defines itself as “Southern Steakhouse meets church potluck.” However, that truly undersells what you’ll actually experience there. While the menu features traditional dishes like fried chicken and biscuits, the execution is anything but ordinary. Executive Chef Chris Rogienski and his team take classic comfort foods and elevate them with a mix of locally sourced ingredients and inventive techniques. Each dish tells a story, blending comfort with creativity, and providing diners with a fresh perspective on beloved Southern flavors. This blend of familiarity and innovation keeps patrons coming back for more. Supperland manages to make comfort food feel new and exciting, which is a big part of its charm. Did I forget to mention they also have a mixologist and a wine director on staff so you’ll have plenty of tasty drinks during your visit too?

The Gorgeous Ambiance and Unique Design

There is more to Supperland than just delicious food and drink though. The entire restaurant/bar has an atmosphere of its own. It has a blend of modern and rustic elements that is pleasing to the eye. There are chandeliers hanging over rustic wooden tables. Everything is served on these dainty floral-patterned plates and there is a tiled oven that is just gorgeous. Supperland’s design has helped it become as much a visual destination as it is a culinary one.

An All-Star Team Behind the Scenes

Another reason Supperland has generated so much buzz is the exceptional talent behind it. Owners Jeff Tonidandel and Jamie Brown have a handful of restaurants in the Charlotte area. They opened their first location in 2009. The Tonidandel-Brown restaurant group prides itself on creating unique food & drink spaces in the area.

Chef Chris Rogienski was Valedictorian from Barry Technical School for Culinary Arts. He has cooked professionally for the last 16 years and has a classic French background, which he enjoys combining with Southern comfort food. Colleen Hughes has been with the Tonidandel-Brown restaurant group for 10 years as a mixologist, overseeing the bar programs at many of the group’s locations. Michael Klinger is the wine director at Supperland. He is an Advanced Sommelier and has curated a list of 200+ wines for the menu…
