GCU student arrested for allegedly setting fires at campus apartment in Phoenix

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A university student has been arrested in connection with two fires that broke out over the weekend at a Grand Canyon University apartment building in Phoenix.

Jacob Jarvis, 19, is facing two counts of arson of an occupied structure.

Shortly before 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, Phoenix firefighters responded to reports of a fire on the third floor of the Agave Apartments near 31st and Missouri avenues. Crews arrived and found a sofa on fire in a common area up against a wall next to the fire escape door.

Investigators determined the fire was intentionally set and also learned that the door of one of the apartment units had also been set on fire around the same time. Court documents say the fire was started by lighting paper flyers that were taped to the door…
