The home-selling mavens at Redfin have released their annual list of cities in the United States with the most sunny days per year, and—shocker—not a single Michigan metro made the list. You know what, Arizona, California, Texas…with your “bountiful sunshine” and “outdoor lifestyle,” we Michiganders aren’t the least bit jealous. We’re fine. Fine.

We are just fine with Michigan’s ever-shifting weather patterns, our vitamin D lamps, and the sheer thrill of not knowing what weather season we’ll experience next Tuesday.

Why Sun-Baked Living Isn’t Made for Michiganders

Look, Michigan may not crack Redfin’s Top 10 List of America’s Sunniest Cities, but who needs 200 plus of sunshine anyway? That sounds like overkill. Here in the Great Lakes State, we enjoy a balanced relationship with Mother Nature, including actual seasons (which we may experience all of in one day, but nobody’s perfect).

And when the occasional sunny day does peek through, it feels like a surprise gift—one you knew you were going to get, but there was a delay in shipping, and once you actually had it, it didn’t live up to expectations, and you were left disappointed, hoping another would come your way soon. But a gift all the same.

Let me reiterate: We Michiganders are not jealous of the following cities’ abundant sunshine—their tans, cheery dispositions, or lack of snow shovels. Of course, you don’t have to shovel sunshine, but at least we own Gortex. Here’s Redfin’s rundown of the US cities that see the most sunny days annually:

  1. Yuma, Arizona
  2. 242 sunny days per year
    1. Phoenix, Arizona
    2. 211 sunny days per year
      1. Las Vegas, Nevada
      2. 210 sunny days per year
      1. Fresno, California
      2. 194 sunny days per year
      1. Tucson, Arizona
      1. 193 sunny days per year

Yeah, Yuma, we see your 242 sunny days per year AND your 110-degree summers and raise you a mild Michigan August with 100% humidity. While you’re walking through air so hot you could roast a marshmallow just by stepping outside, we’re enjoying walking outside and instantly being drenched in our sweat…
