City of Downey names Anthony Hildebrand as new fire chief

DOWNEY — The City of Downey has announced the appointment of Anthony Hildebrand as its 11th fire chief. Hildebrand, who has served as assistant fire chief since January 2021, will officially assume his new role on January 1, 2025.

With over two decades of experience in fire service, Hildebrand began his career in 2003 after completing the El Camino College Fire Academy. That same year, he joined the Downey Fire Department, progressing through roles such as paramedic, engineer, captain, and assistant chief. His notable achievements include developing a tactical paramedic team that works with the Downey Police Department’s SWAT team and creating a high school fire technology and EMT certification program in collaboration with the Downey Unified School District.
