WINTERVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — An Eastern N.C. pastor has been pardoned by Governor Roy Cooper.
Now, Darron Carmon is speaking about his story after hearing that news. In 1993, when he was 19 years old, Carmon was wrongfully convicted for a robbery in Winterville.
“No one deserves that, it’s painful. It snatches a person away from their family,” Carmon said. “The world, as a person knew it, is over until they get out. There is no going to McDonald’s, there is no going to the restaurant, there’s no going to the movies, there is no going bowling. It’s supposed to be designed for people who are guilty. But unfortunately, there are people who are innocent, you know, that are behind bars.”…
