Southwest Missouri homeowner found dead; 15 dogs rescued from property

ST. LOUIS — More than a dozen dogs of varying breeds are arriving at the Humane Society of Missouri’s headquarters in St. Louis for evaluations and veterinary treatment after being rescued from what volunteers describe as “deplorable conditions.”

Last week, deputies with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to a welfare check at a home after receiving calls from a concerned neighbor. Deputies arrived to find the homeowner deceased and several dogs loose on the property without access to food or water. Other dogs were found tethered or confined to cages.

The HSMO’s Animal Cruelty Task Force determined many of the dogs were malnourished and suffering a wide range of health issues…
