In less than a month, the Evanston/Skokie District 65 school board is expected to hear from its consultant, a firm called Student-Centered Services, on “three to five” scenarios for cutting next year’s budget by $13.2 million, a requirement for the district to avoid fiscal insolvency and a potential state takeover.
The district announced on Friday, Dec. 20 — the last day of school before a two-week winter break — the schedule for a series of community meetings on those scenarios following the Jan. 13 board meeting where they will be presented.
“At the January 13 Committee of the Whole meeting, several scenarios will be presented to the School Board for consideration as part of the district’s structural deficit reduction plan. As a reminder it will be necessary to reduce our budget by approximately $13.2 million before the start of next school year,” the district said in a news release. “We are committed to engaging with the community to gather feedback and know that we all have a shared goal to minimize the impact on students.”…
