Greensboro homicides down nearly 50% in 2024

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — Another weekend, with no homicides. It’s a trend we are seeing more of this year, with homicide numbers almost cut in half, compared to this time last year.

In Greensboro, there are 28 homicides so far this year, compared to 54 at this same time last year. In Winston-Salem, the city has also seen a decrease, currently, there are 20 homicides, compared to 36 at this same time last year. It’s the same story in High Point, there are 3 homicides this year, compared to 10 at the same time in 2023.

There is no simple answer as to why violent crime is down across the Triad, but Greensboro police say, it’s a team effort.

“We don’t want to get comfortable just because we are seeing a decrease in homicides, we want to keep our efforts going, continue to build on that, continue to partner with our federal partners, the U.S. Attorney’s office, the Guilford county D.A.’s office, that makes a difference with those partnerships to hold individuals accountable,” said Asst.
