Martin County commissioners to vote on resolution related to hospital

In a significant move towards reopening Martin General Hospital, the Martin County Board of Commissioners voted to pass a resolution allowing the county to seek bids for the hospital’s sale or lease. The decision, made during a packed meeting at the Martin County Courthouse, marks the first major step in restoring healthcare services to the area nearly a year and a half after the hospital’s closure.

“This process leaves a lot of room for public input,” said Paul Roberson, a Martin County resident. “I think it’s necessary, after all, the citizens have a right to have input into who our provider is for healthcare in Martin County.”

The county, which now owns the hospital property, is required by state statute to acquire at least five bids from organizations. A public hearing will be held to gather insights from residents who rely on the hospital’s services…
