Mauldin establishes accommodations tax advisory committee: City Council notes

Here’s a recap of the Oct. 21 meeting of Mauldin City Council.

Approved: Accommodations tax advisory committee

Council approved the establishment of an accommodations tax advisory committee for Mauldin. The committee will make recommendations on how the city should spend the revenue generated from the state accommodations tax. A portion of the funding can be used to help promote tourism within Mauldin.

Seven people were appointed by council to be on the committee including:

  • Julia Scholz, owner of Rôtie by Stella’s
  • Michelle Dodge, owner of Bridgeway Brewing Co.
  • Leslie Jones, events manager at BridgeWay Station
  • Megan Wilburn, owner of Grand Holland Estate
  • Dean Andrews, director of sales at Courtyard by Marriott
  • Ryan Enniss, general manager at Courtyard by Marriott
  • Rachel Putnam, owner of Onyx Solutions and member of Mauldin Cultural Council

Appointed: Assistant city administrator

Gregory Saxton has been appointed as Mauldin’s first assistant city administrator. He brings with him 14 years of experience in local government and will assist City Administrator Seth Duncan in managing daily municipal operations.

According to the city, the assistant city administrator role was created to provide additional leadership and administrator support as Mauldin continues to grow. Council previously voted to appoint Saxton at their meeting on Aug. 5. His first day will be Nov. 5.

Initial Approval: Sewer ordinance revisions

Council gave initial approval to amend the city’s utility ordinance. The ordinance was updated to clarify the ownership and maintenance of sewer lateral on private property. The property owners are responsible for maintaining their sewer lateral…
