CDOT crews on scene after major rockslide closes U.S. Highway 40 near Milner

U.S. Highway 40 is closed in both directions after a major rockslide west of Steamboat Springs near Milner spilled onto the roadway.

Just before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Colorado Department of Transportation spokesperson Lisa Schwantes said crews were working to blast the large rock into pieces small enough for construction crews to move the material off the highway.

Schwantes also said a CDOT “geotechnical team” is expected to arrive at the site of the rock slide around noon today to determine if there is additional loose rock along the highway that would require further mitigation work…
