Md. Attorney General’s Office Releases Names From Hagerstown Police In-Custody Death

Baltimore, Md (KM) The Maryland’s Attorney General’s Office Independent Investigations Division has released the names of the man who died in Hagerstown Police custody last weekend as well as the officers involved. The person who died is Kelvin Lashawn Baker, 46, of Hagerstown. The officers are Captain Tom Langston, a 27-year veteran of the Hagerstown Police assigned to the Operations Division; Sergeant Steve Lucas, an 11-year veteran of the police department assigned to the Investigations Division; and Officer Zack Rowe, an eight-year police veteran assigned to the Operations Division. .

On Saturday night, October 26th, 2024, at around 10:15, officers from the Hagerstown Police Department were dispatched to serve a search warrant at a home in the 100 block of East Washington Street. When they arrived, they found a man outside of the house identified as Baker. He was placed in handcuffs, and put in the rear seat of a patrol car.

While in the backseat, Baker vomited and was having difficulty breathing. He then became unresponsive. Officers immediately rendered medical aid. Baker was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. The officers were equipped with body cameras, and dashboard cameras…
