SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – A favorite Cajun Creole restaurant in Springfield will be making a comeback in tribute to a popular diner that closed its doors during the COVID-19 pandemic after 25 years of service.
The spinoff of popular Creole dining fixture Chef Wayne’s Big Mamou is set to make a comeback in a new location and under new ownership. Ivan Felix, a former Big Mamou chef, is now taking over its new location called Mamou, which is set to open on Worthington Street in March. “Why not bring it up to the next level right? Why not spruce it up a bit?” Felix said.
Throughout the process, Big Mamou owner Wayne Hooker has been in full support of Felix’s plan to revive the beloved restaurant he first opened 25 years ago on Liberty Street, which closed over four years ago. “I try not to get overly emotional. He became a mentor, a work colleague, but also, I would say a business father figure,” Felix added. “To have something that you work so hard for to build up from the ground of 20-plus years to have the opportunity to finally pass the torch.”…
