South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has announced the arrest of John Lemuel Morrell Jr., age 60 of Lexington, for Exploitation of a Vulnerable Adult and Grand Larceny value $10,000 or more. Morrell was arrested by the Attorney General’s Vulnerable Adults and Medicaid Provider Fraud unit (VAMPF), and booked into the Lexington County Detention Center on Jan. 17, 2025.
According to a news release from the Attorney General’s office, Morrell is specifically alleged to have accessed the victim’s bank and credit card accounts and obtained $143,413.79 of the victim’s funds for his own personal benefit.
Exploitation of a Vulnerable Adult is a felony and, upon conviction, carries a penalty of up to five years in prison, a fine of up to $5,000, or both.
