Dance troupe ‘Hithla’ showcases Native American stomp dancing at USM

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) – Students, faculty and visitors to the University of Southern Mississippi campus were treated to an interactive event Wednesday, focused on traditional Native American dance.

Members of the Native American dance troupe, “Hithla,” paid a visit to Hattiesburg, to showcase “stomp dancing” and other types of traditional dance.

“It’s a really, really old dance being done by the mound builders, the traditional people who were here long before our tribes had names,” said Amy Bluemel, co-director of “Hithla.”…
