Bay Area grocery stores limit egg purchases amid shortage

Amid the ongoing bird flu virus affecting commercial flocks around the country, Bay Area grocery stores are limiting the number of egg cartons customers can buy at a time.

Egg shortage signs were spotted at two Whole Foods stores, at 399 Fourth St. in San Francisco and 1333 Newell Ave. in Walnut Creek, informing customers that they would be limited to three cartons of eggs each due to a “difficulty sourcing eggs.” A Safeway store at 600 S. Broadway in Walnut Creek also had a similar sign limiting customers to two cartons each “due to limited supply.”
