United Way still not at $3.85 million goal for Helena Inn purchase, unsure of future

United Way of the Lewis & Clark Area’s end of year deadline for its Helena Inn purchase is fast approaching, but it hasn’t met its fundraising goal.

United Way wants to restore and repurpose the Helena Inn at 2300 N. Oakes St. into a low-income housing facility, Executive Director Emily McVey said.

It set out to raise $3.85 million by the end of the year and meet a large $5 million goal down the road.

However, as of Friday, it hasn’t yet met that goal, McVey said. It’s raised just under $700,000…
