CSUSB Honors MLK’s Legacy with Service Project at Coachella Valley Rescue Mission

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, California State University San Bernardino’s Office of Community Engagement organized a service project to give back to the community. On Monday morning, a group of dedicated volunteers gathered at the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission to help revitalize the grounds. Their efforts included digging up rocks, sifting dirt, and clearing debris, all aimed at giving the area a fresh new look.The volunteers saw this project as an opportunity to not just observe MLK Day, but to actively live out Dr. King’s principles of service and community support. One participant shared, “My high school teacher would always say Dr. King worked on his birthday, so we can work on his birthday in celebration of him.” The service project was a reminder that MLK’s message of giving and working for the betterment of society should extend beyond his birthday.This project is just the beginning.
