Governor Gavin Newsom unveiled a major boost to California’s workforce, announcing $24.7 million in grants to 65 apprenticeship programs across vital sectors like healthcare, transportation, education, and advanced manufacturing. The initiative will support 8,270 apprentices, offering an average wage of nearly $32 per hour.
This funding marks the second round of the Apprenticeship Innovation Funding program, designed to create earn-and-learn opportunities to meet workforce demands. Newsom emphasized the state’s commitment to equipping residents with skills for high-paying jobs.
California leads the nation in registered apprenticeships, serving 190,915 apprentices so far, with a goal of 500,000 by 2029. Newsom also highlighted the forthcoming $120 million “California Jobs First Economic Blueprint” to drive statewide job creation and economic growth over the next decade.
