Hickory OUTright Youth leader talks refuge of theater, stress relief of snowflakes

OUTright Youth’s new program director said music and theater have been an integral part of her life and helped prepare her for the work she does today.

“Anytime somebody felt different or somehow wrong as a person, theater and music were the places where people could find refuge,” Rachel Woodard said. “I think that’s been the case throughout my life. That’s why I’m so happy to be working here at OUTright Youth, because I’m the person I needed at the age that the kids are here.”

OUTright Youth is a nonprofit support group for LGBTQ+ teens and young adults in Catawba County and surrounding areas. Woodard began working at OUTright Youth in July…
