Three of the four Fontana High School marksmanship teams have qualified for the Marine Corps JROTC National Marksmanship competition, which runs from Thursday, Feb. 13, to Saturday, Feb. 15, in Anniston, Alabama. The teams placed fifth, 24th and 85th out of 200 teams nationwide.
“It’s nice to see that when we go up against other schools, we punch well above our weight,” said Lt. Col. Rugsithi Denny Meelarp, senior marine instructor for Fontana High School’s MCJROTC and coach of the marksmanship team.
“Sometimes, the cadets don’t see the big picture and I tell them ‘This is what you just accomplished, that’s pretty significant and you should feel good about it.’ Sometimes they just keep going and doing so much that they don’t take the time to appreciate their success.”…
