Ottawa County Parks have nearly completed the acquisition of 127 acres of property adjacent to Rosy Mound Natural Area. Their intention is to integrate the two properties. The department says the new property offers many opportunities for recreation, improved natural resource management, and restoration.
Rosy Mound sits on 164 acres of Lake Michigan shoreline in southern Grand Haven. It was originally purchased from a sand mining company in 1994. At that time, there was intent to purchase the remaining 127 adjacent acreage, but the sand mining operation continued. In recent years, the mining ceased and the site has been reclaimed in accordance with state mining regulations.
