Detroit City FC wins third straight, moves into third place

Detroit City FC continued its strong late-season surge, winning its third straight game Saturday night, a 2-0 victory over Monterey Bay F.C. in Seaside, California.

The victory moved Le Rouge ahead of the Tampa Bay Rowdies, whose match against Hartford Athletic was postponed in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. A makeup date has not been announced. DCFC is now in third place in the United Soccer League Championship’s Eastern Conference, two points ahead of the Rowdies, who have played one fewer game.

DCFC’s first solid scoring chance came in the 30th minute when Connor Rutz sneaked behind the Monterey defense and took a pass from Maxi Rodriguez, but his shot was stopped by a kick save from Monterey keeper Carlos Herrera.

Detroit opened the scoring in the 37th minute when Ben Morris took a pass from Rutz about 25 yards out and fired a laser just above the ground that found the lower left corner of the net…
