Richmond rings in New Year with win over UMass

Richmond always seems to exceed whatever expectations are thrown its way. Last year, in particular, the Spiders were picked 11th in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll and went on to win 15 games in league play and finished tied for first. This season, after last year’s success, they were picked to finish seventh.

Well, for the second straight season, Richmond has started league play 2-0 after going up to Amherst and defeating UMass 72-64 to open up 2025 in the win column.

“To get a road win in the Atlantic 10, it’s terrific,” head coach Chris Mooney said. “I feel like a bunch of teams are trying to mesh together and work together, that’s taken us a little time, but our work ethic is terrific.”…
