Jeffery Fiala, a firefighter, lost his life fighting the flames that have now been determined to have started from an unattended kitchen. The investigation, which was a collaborative effort between the HFD and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives National Response Team, concluded that the incident was not criminal.
The fire’s origin was traced to the kitchen area at the back of the structure, as detailed in the official statement released by the HFD. In the chaos, alongside the fallen firefighter, four other firefighters and one occupant sustained injuries, all requiring hospitalization. As per the latest update, the occupant is still receiving medical treatment, and their condition is a pending detail not yet disclosed to the public.
