NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – The National Hurricane Center upgraded Helene to hurricane status with winds of 80 mph with the 10 am today . the western peninsula of Florida and most of the panhandle fall under hurricane and tropical storm warnings as well as storm surge warnings. The storm is expected to intensify to at least a strong category 4 storm with winds around 130+ mph.
