GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – As Tropical Storm Helene makes its way toward Florida, animal rescue groups are spending this week trying to save dozens of animals from shelters.

Florida Urgent Rescue (FUR), along with other non-profits, are driving through the state removing dogs and cats from shelters that have outside kennels and those that are in low-lying areas.

Mike Merrill, the founder of FUR, says 13 dogs were taken out of the Union County shelter Tuesday, along with 29 cats and 6 dogs from the Wakulla County shelter…
