Trash bags of fentanyl found in trunk of vehicle

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A traffic stop on Interstate 5 near San Clemente led to a major drug bust Thursday, according to U.S. Border Patrol’s San Diego Sector.

The situation unfolded around 4 p.m. when agents assigned to the San Clemente Border Patrol Station stopped a suspicious silver sedan traveling on the 5 freeway. During the stop, a trained K-9 alerted agents to the presence of narcotics.

During a secondary inspection of the vehicle’s trunk, agents discovered plastic-wrapped packages inside of black trash bags, something CBP said was consistent with the packaging of smuggled narcotics.

At that point, the suspected narcotics, vehicle, and driver — a man that was determined to be a U.S. citizen — were transported to a nearby Border Patrol station for further investigation. While at the station, agents removed 40 cellophane-wrapped packages containing blue pills…
