HUNTSVILLE, Ala. ( WHNT ) — History was made as Michelle Watkins was sworn in as the first black woman to serve on the Huntsville City Council.
This comes after Watkins beat two-term incumbent Devyn Keith in the September runoff.

Watkins was sworn in alongside John Meredith and Mayor Tommy Battle. Meredith is serving his second term as District 5 Councilman and Mayor Battle is serving his fifth term as the mayor of the city.
